Cialis / generic Cialis

Cialis (Generic)

Generic Cialis (tadalafil) is prescribed to treat sexual function problems in men, including erectile dysfunction (ED) and impotence. Cialis increases blood flow to the penis, helping a man get or maintain an erection during sexual activity. Tadalafil is the active ingredient in Generic Cialis. Women and children should not take Cialis.

Generic Cialis requires a prescription. You can get a prescription for generic Cialis ( tadalafil) at Blink Health, including online doctor visit and refills. All generic medications sold through Blink Health Pharmacy are FDA-approved.

Cialis is in a class of medications called phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitors that work by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation to help men get and maintain an erection. Cialis does not cure ED or increase sexual desire. It does not prevent pregnancy or protect against sexually transmitted diseases.

Cialis can be taken once daily, and you can attempt sex any time between doses. It can also be taken as needed, approximately 30 minutes before sexual activity or as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or less than what your doctor prescribes.

Cialis is the brand version of generic tadalafil. Both contain the same active ingredient and are medically equivalent to treat erectile dysfunction. Generic tadalafil is cheaper than the brand Cialis. Both Cialis and tadalafil tablets are yellow and almond-shaped.

Light sensitivity or vision changes (especially blue/green colors)

Priapism, painful erection lasting 4 or more hours

Swelling in the lips, face, throat, tongue, eyes, hands, feet, or legs

Your dose depends on whether you take Cialis daily, or as needed, for sexual activity. Your doctor may start you at a lower dose and increase it as appropriate after monitoring for side effects and efficacy.

Eli Lily was the original manufacturer for Cialis for the treatment of heart disease and during clinical trials it was noticed that it also helped treat erectile dysfunction. Cialis was first approved by the FDA to take as needed for ED in 2003, then approved for daily use in 2008. In 2011 it was also approved to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Depending on your health history, your lifestyle habits may determine how long you need an ED prescription. Read more.

How to use

Before you start taking generic Cialis (and every time you get a refill), read the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist. If you have any questions, ask your licensed medical professional.

Take generic Cialis by mouth, either with or without food, as directed by your licensed medical professional. Do not take this medication more than one time per day.

The dosage of generic Cialis prescribed to you is based on your response to treatment, medical condition, and other medications you may be taking. Tell your clinician and pharmacist about all prescription, nonprescription, and herbal products and drugs you use.

To treat symptoms of BPH, take this medication as directed by your licensed medical professional, usually once per day. If you are also taking finasteride (generic Propecia) to treat symptoms of BPH, ask your licensed medical professional about how long you should continue taking this medication.

There are two ways that generic Cialis may be prescribed to treat erectile dysfunction. Your licensed medical professional will determine which is best for each patient. Follow their directions exactly, since your dosage will depend on how you take it. The first way is to take it as needed, usually at least 30 minutes before sexual activity. Generic Cialis’s effect on sexual ability can last up to 36 hours. The second way generic Cialis can treat erectile dysfunction is to take it regularly, once a day, every day. If you take it this way, you can attempt sexual activity at any time between your doses.

If you are taking generic Cialis to treat both ED and BPH, take it as directed by your licensed medical professional, usually once a day. You can attempt sexual activity at any time between your doses.

If you are taking generic Cialisl once per day for BPH, or for ED, or for both, take it regularly to get the greatest benefit. A good way to remember to take it regularly is to take it at the same time every day.

Tell your clinician if your condition does not improve or if it gets worse.

Side effects

It’s important to be aware of possible side effects before you start taking a medication. Here are the listed side effects for this drug:

Headache, stomach upset, back pain, muscle pain, stuffy nose, flushing, or dizziness may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

To reduce the risk of dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Sexual activity may put extra strain on your heart, especially if you have heart problems. If you have heart problems and experience any of these serious side effects while having sex, stop and get medical help right away: severe dizziness, fainting, chest/jaw/left arm pain, nausea.

Rarely, sudden decreased vision, including permanent blindness, in one or both eyes (NAION) may occur. If this serious problem occurs, stop taking tadalafil and get medical help right away. You have a slightly greater chance of developing NAION if you have heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, certain other eye problems (‘crowded disk’), high blood pressure, if you are over 50, or if you smoke.

Rarely, a sudden decrease or loss of hearing, sometimes with ringing in the ears and dizziness, may occur. Stop taking tadalafil and get medical help right away if these effects occur.

In the rare event you have a painful or prolonged erection lasting 4 or more hours, stop using this drug and get medical help right away, or permanent problems could occur.

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

This is not a complete list of possible side effects. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

In the US – Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088 or at www.fda.gov/medwatch.

In Canada – Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to Health Canada at 1-866-234-2345.

Warnings & Precautions

It’s also important to be aware of precautions and warnings around taking this medication.

Before taking tadalafil, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: heart problems (such as heart attack or life-threatening irregular heartbeat in the past 6 months, chest pain/angina, heart failure), stroke in the past 6 months, kidney disease, liver disease, high or low blood pressure, a severe loss of body water (dehydration), penis conditions (such as angulation, fibrosis/scarring, Peyronie’s disease), history of painful/prolonged erection (priapism), conditions that may increase the risk of priapism (such as sickle cell anemia, leukemia, multiple myeloma), eye problems (such as retinitis pigmentosa, sudden decreased vision, NAION), bleeding disorders, active stomach ulcers.

This drug may make you dizzy. Alcohol or marijuana (cannabis) can make you more dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you can do it safely. Limit alcoholic beverages. Talk to your doctor if you are using marijuana (cannabis).

Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).

This brand of the drug is not usually used in women. During pregnancy, tadalafil should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Storage

Store Cialis at room temperature, away from moisture and light. Do not store this medication in the bathroom. Keep Cialis (and all medications) away from children and pets.

Do not flush Cialis or any medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. If your Cialis has expired or you no longer need it, be sure to discard it properly. Your pharmacist or local waste disposal company can give you instructions.

Drug interactions

Drug interactions can alter how your medication works or increase your risk for serious side effects. This document does not contain all possible drug interactions. It’s a good idea to keep a list of all the products you use (including prescription/nonprescription drugs and herbal products) and share it with your clinician and pharmacist. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of generic Cialis or any medications without your clinician’s approval.

A product that may interact with this drug is: riociguat.

Cialis can cause a serious drop in your blood pressure when used with nitrates, which can lead to fainting, dizziness, and, rarely, stroke or heart attack. Do not use Cialis with any of the following: recreational drugs called ‘poppers’ containing amyl or butyl nitrite or certain drugs used to treat chest pain/angina (nitrates such as nitroglycerin, isosorbide).

If you are also treating high blood pressure or BPH (enlarged prostate) by taking an alpha blocker medication (like doxazosin or tamsulosin), your blood pressure may get too low which can lead to dizziness or fainting. Your licensed medical professional may adjust your alpha blocker medication or start your treatment with a lower dose of generic Cialis to minimize your risk of low blood pressure.

Other medications can affect the removal of generic Cialis from your body, which can affect how it works. Examples include HIV protease inhibitors (such as fosamprenavir, ritonavir), macrolide antibiotics (such as clarithromycin, erythromycin), azole antifungals (such as itraconazole, ketoconazole), hepatitis C virus protease inhibitors (such as boceprevir, telaprevir), and rifampin, among others.

Do not take Cialis with any other product that contains tadalafil or other similar medications used to treat erectile dysfunction or pulmonary hypertension (like sildenafil or vardenafil).

Overdose

If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call a poison control center immediately. US residents can call their local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. Canada residents can call a provincial poison control center.

If you are taking this medication on a regular schedule and you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of your next dose, skip the missed dose. Take your next dose at the regular time. Do not double your dose to “catch up.”

About Cialis

  • Cialis is a prescription-only oral tablet used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED ) in men.
  • ‘Cialis’ is a brand name, the active ingredient is ‘tadalafil’.
  • Take a 10mg or 20mg tablet at least 30 minutes before sexual activity, lasts for up to 36 hours.
  • Low dose daily Cialis (2.5mg and 5mg) recommended for men regularly requiring treatment more than twice per week.
  • Read the patient leaflet for a full list of side effects, cautions, and interactions with other drugs.
  • Patent expired 2017 in the UK – cheaper generic tadalafil available.

The weekend pill

Cialis from Lilly pharmaceutical company is sometimes known as The Weekend Pill due to its 36-hour duration of action.

It has been licensed in the UK since 2003. It was the second erectile dysfunction (ED ) prescription medication of its type to receive a UK license, after Viagra (sildenafil). Its prolonged effectiveness and the option to take a low dose daily tablet have led to Cialis becoming increasingly popular and being more widely prescribed.

Generic Cialis

The patent for Cialis expired in the UK on 14 November 2017, allowing other drug manufacturers to legally make and sell generic versions (marketed as tadalafil). Generic medicines are medically identical to branded originals and are usually much lower cost.

Daily versus Cialis ’36 hours’

Most men take Cialis as and when they need it, usually 10mg or 20mg, which is effective for up to 36 hours.

Men who need erectile dysfunction treatment two or more times a week should consider taking a regular low dose tablet daily. 2.5mg or 5mg strength tablets taken every day will provide continuous erectile dysfunction treatment, without peaks and troughs.

What does it do?

Tadalafil can also be used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) symptoms.

Why do men get erectile dysfunction?

A range of factors contribute to erectile dysfunction, including lifestyle choices, mental state, chronic disease, injuries, and operations. Emotional problems, such as stress and performance anxiety, can have an impact on both erectile performance and sexual desire. Occasional treatment with a PDE5 inhibitor such as Cialis can be effective in breaking a cycle of anxiety and failure. Lifestyle factors, such as smoking, non-prescription drug use, excessive drinking, and even obesity can have an effect. Erectile dysfunction is sometimes a symptom of underlying health problems such as diabetes, atherosclerosis, and heart disease, amongst others.

Why Cialis?

Cialis benefits from having a long duration of action. Viagra remains active for about 4 hours, Levitra for 4-5 hours, and Cialis for 36 hours – hence its familiar name ‘The Weekend Pill’. Erections will not be continuous during 36 hours after taking Cialis, occurring only at times of arousal during those 36 hours.

Alternative treatment

Viagra (sildenafil), Levitra (vardenafil), and Spedra (avanafil) are alternative tablet treatments for erectile dysfunction and are also available to buy in various strengths and pack sizes after completing the same medical consultation.
Compare erectile dysfunction tablets

Taking Cialis for the first time

There are four strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg, and 20mg. The lower doses of 2.5mg and 5mg are primarily for regular daily use, although the 5mg strength can be taken on an as required basis by men who respond well to one-off lower doses.

The usual starting dose is 10mg taken at least 30 minutes before sexual activity. If this dose is highly effective, subsequent doses could be reduced to 5mg on a trial basis. If repeated trials of a 10mg dose prove ineffective, the dose can be increased to 20mg.

There is no benefit in taking a higher dose than is needed. Repeated trials of treatment at one dose are recommended before changing to higher or lower strength tablets.

Dosage

Daily Cialis

2.5mg or 5mg daily tablet for continuous erectile dysfunction treatment.

Cialis 10mg

Recommended starting dose for most men taking it for the first time.

Cialis 20mg

High strength dose as required for when 10mg is insufficient.

Does it work every time?

Response to treatment is usually predictable and consistent. On most occasions, if Cialis has worked before, it will work again.

Some causes of erectile dysfunction, such as physical injuries or nerve damage, are more resistant to tablet treatments and may require other therapies, such as injections or penile implants.

Erectile dysfunction may require specialist treatment apart from tablets. Some men, whose erectile dysfunction has psychological causes, may benefit from counselling.

All men who are troubled by erectile dysfunction, which can be a distressing problem, should consult a doctor for a full assessment and advice.

Side effects of Cialis

Most men do not experience significant side effects. A full list of the most frequent side effects can be found in the manufacturer’s patient information leaflet supplied with tablets (links below).

Some men experience a bluish or yellowish tinge to their vision after taking Cialis. This is not dangerous and fades after a few hours. This is a possible side effect of all ED drugs (PDE5 inhibitors).

Other common side effects (affecting 1%-10%) include headache, back pain, muscle aches, pain in the arms or legs, nasal congestion, facial flushing, and indigestion.

On very rare occasions ED treatment produces prolonged and painful erections, in a condition known as priapism. Priapism is a medical emergency with the potential on rare occasions for irreversible injury to the penis. If an erection lasts for more than 2 hours, medical attention should be sought immediately.

When not to take Cialis

  • They are taking other erectile dysfunction drugs such as Viagra/sildenafil, Levitra/vardenafil, or Spedra/avanafil
  • They are currently taking nitrates for angina, including isosorbide mononitrate, isosorbide dinitrate, nicorandil, and glyceryl trinitrate – serious reactions possible
  • They are taking medications to treat HIV , including Indinavir and Ritonavir
  • They are using anti-fungal treatments like itraconazole or ketoconazole.
  • They are using recreational drugs such as amyl nitrate (‘poppers’).
  • They are taking alpha-blockers often used in the treatment of prostate enlargement and high blood pressure such as doxazosin, prazosin, alfuzosin, terazosin, indoramin, and tamsulosin.
  • They are taking antibiotics such as erythromycin, clarithromycin, or rifampicin.
  • They are on anticonvulsants such as phenobarbital, phenytoin, or carbamazepine.

Cialis should not be taken at the same time or within 36 hours of taking Viagra/sildenafil, Levitra/vardenafil, or Spedra/avanafil.

About Cialis

Cialis is considered a phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitor, which functions by relaxing blood vessels and muscles. Like any phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor, this medication can only be used for erectile dysfunction. It is also ineffective against low libido because it will not increase testosterone.

Cialis is known to treat conditions including erectile dysfunction (ED) and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a prostate condition that may cause problems with urination. Cialis is available only by prescription. It is available in a generic formulation as well as under different brand names, including Tadalafil ( generic Cialis )and Adcirca.

Cialis may be prescribed as a tablet. It’s always important to follow the specific instructions on your prescription medication, as they can vary based on the formulation and dosage you are prescribed.

If you are prescribed Cialis, be sure to complete the full course of the phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor unless your doctor specifically tells you to stop.

If you don’t complete your prescription, the phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor may not fully treat your erectile dysfunction.

Cialis uses

There are 2 FDA-approved uses for Cialis, but physicians may also use it off-label to treat other conditions. Your online medical professional may prescribe it for any of the following common reasons. It’s also possible that your health care provider may prescribe it for other reasons not listed here. Ask your online doctor or pharmacist if you have questions about why a medication is prescribed.

Treat erectile dysfunction

Difficulty maintaining an erection during sex.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)

A prostate condition that may cause problems with urination

Prevention of altitude sickness

Raynaud’s Phenomenon

Prescribed off-label – Fingers and toes get cold and blue

Increases exercise capacity in men and women

Cialis side effects

The side effects associated with taking Cialis are typically mild. Most Cialis side effects are associated with Gastrointestinal discomfort. Cialis has some common side effects. They may include:

Flushing

Headache

Nausea

Dizziness

Chest pain

Other side effects, which are less common but might be more severe, could include:

Changes in vision or loss of sight

Erection that lasts longer than 4 hours

Painful erections

Sudden hearing decrease

Fast or irregular heartbeat

You should call your doctor if you notice any of these side effects or if you develop any other new or concerning symptoms. Use of Cialis in young children under age 18 is not advised.

How to take Cialis

Your pharmacist will provide you with instructions on how to take your Cialis prescription.

Be sure to read your prescription label and follow the instructions. Call your doctor or pharmacy if you have any questions.

Cialis can come in different forms and doses, so be sure to follow the specific instructions on your prescription. It is typically prescribed once per day. However, some specific instructions may include Cialis can be used either as needed or taken once a day. Don’t take Cialis more than once per day.

What to avoid while taking Cialis

Cialis has 281 drug interactions. Don’t change what you are taking without checking with your doctor or pharmacist. That includes other medications or supplements, as well as over-the-counter drugs.

It is important to tell your doctor when taking Cialis. If you need emergency medical care for a heart problem, the doctor will need to know.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist if consuming alcohol while taking Cialis is acceptable.

Some research shows that regular alcohol consumption may not interfere with Cialis. However, excessive alcohol consumption while taking Cialis, can lead to dangerous side effects, including low blood pressure, dizziness, and fast heartbeat.

Cialis can cause your blood pressure to drop suddenly to an unsafe level if it is taken with any medicines called nitrates.

Those with health conditions like sickle cell anemia or pulmonary arterial hypertension should not take Cialis without advice from a healthcare provider.

Ask your doctor before taking other ED medications.

Medication alternatives to Cialis

If your healthcare provider prefers to put you on another treatment altogether, they may suggest another phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor or an ED medication in another drug class. Here are some common doctor-recommended alternatives based on your health issue:

About Cialis

Is Cialis approved for ED?

Yes. Cialis is approved by the FDA to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). Our medical team can prescribe Cialis 5mg, 10mg, and 20mg. The starting dose we generally recommend is 10mg.

Tadalafil is the name for the active chemical ingredient in Cialis. PDE-5 inhibitors is the name of the group of medicines. Cialis is the brand name.

How do I make sure to get genuine Cialis?

You don’t have to worry about getting counterfeit Cialis when you use Lemonaid because we deliver it to you from the Lemonaid Pharmacy in St Louis, Missouri. All US based pharmacies must follow FDA regulations to ensure safe and high quality medicine. A large proportion of the Cialis available online is counterfeit, so it’s important to get your Cialis from a reputable pharmacy you trust that is based in the US.

Why do I need a prescription for Cialis?

Cialis is only available by prescription because it’s not appropriate or safe for everyone to take it. Certain health conditions and other medicines can make it unsafe to take Cialis. It’s important that you know your blood pressure and provide it to our medical team when you answer our health questions.

Does generic Cialis exist?

Yes, it does exist. Our medical team can prescribe it online and our pharmacy can mail it to you in 5mg, 10mg and 20mg dose.

An even lower cost option for ED medicines is generic sildenafil 20mg tablets. Sildenafil is the active ingredient in Viagra. Our medical team can give you a prescription for sildenafil 20mg. The Lemonaid Pharmacy can deliver it to you for $2/pill, including FREE delivery. Our medical team can prescribe it in a 20mg, 60mg or 100mg dose.
